I’ve Opened Another Blog!

When I’m not listening to music, I’m reading or writing. Writing is something that I really enjoy doing, and I’ve written multiple stories in the past year – so I decided to open a blog for them!

The blog is titled WriterOfShorts, and I would be incredibly grateful if you could subscribe to it and give me feedback on what I write.

I still enjoy TotalBandGeek, and will still be posting over here whenever I have news to share about my favorite bands. Don’t worry – I won’t be forgetting about this blog for a while!!

Album of the Week!

Hey, it’s been a . . . few weeks since I’ve posted one of these. Sorry! My music discovery days have been slow (plus I’ve been hooked on The Maine since I last posted.)

This weeks Album of the Week is Ambitions by ONE OK ROCK!

ONE OK ROCK is a Japanese band formed in Tokyo in 2005. They have been on multiple different tours, their most recent tour adventure was opening for 5 Seconds of Summer on their Sounds Live Feels Live tour.

Recently (as in, today, recently) they released their album Ambitions – which features a couple tracks with Alex Gaskarth and 5 Seconds of Summer!

Personally, I found this album through 5 Seconds of Summer’s fanbase. I had listened to ONE OK ROCK before, having “Decision” from their 35xxxv album added on my Spotify. I had heard that 5SOS were going to be featured on ONE OK ROCK’s song “Take What You Want” off of this latest album, and decided to give it a listen.

Let me tell you . . .

it is GOOD!

I first experienced this song from a 5SOS fans standpoint, so that’s how I will be talking about it for a minute. “Take What You Want” is incredibly different compared to 5SOS previous music. 5SOS are somewhat of a punk pop band, but ONE OK ROCK do beat them in that area by being a bit more punk. That being said, ONE OK ROCK’s music is screamier than 5SOS music – so it was very different to hear 5SOS in a screamy song.

“Take What You Want” is definitely more vocally intense. It was different to hear 5SOS pushing their vocals to the limit, versus usually bopping along to their harmonious melodies. Nevertheless, it was still really nice to hear. (Some fans consider this as new music from 5SOS – I personally don’t but 5SOS haven’t released any new music in a few months so it was really really nice to hear their voices doing something new!)

After feeling satisfied from “Take What You Want”, I decided to listen to the rest of Ambitions. To be honest, the first few songs didn’t stand out from each other very much; they all seemed to be incredibly similar, nothing really spectacular about them. However, that changed once the album hit “Hard to Love“, one of the slower songs on the album. It was a nice change, and it really catches your attention to go from something so energy packed to soft and melodic. The tracks from then on vary, causing your attention to be held firm.

My favorite tracks off Ambitions are: “Hard to Love”, “Bedroom Warfare“, “American Girls“, “I Was King“, “Start Again“, and “Take What You Want.”

Have you listened to Ambitions or any other ONE OK ROCK songs? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment! Feel free to leave any music suggestions, too!

A Different Kind of Thread

On twitter there are so. many. different threads – and I love them all! Usually I end up staying up way too late at night scrolling through vine threads. However, today I found a different kind of thread.

This Pop Punk Bands Write Songs thread is one of the most glorious threads, I encourage all to scroll through! It’s exactly what it sounds like: its a thread of artists and what the majority of their songs consist of. I don’t know how to explain it any better than that!

What did you think of this thread? Which was your favorite post? What are some of your favorite threads? I’d love to view them! Respond in the comments 🙂

Don’t know where to stream music?

Don’t worry! There are many music streaming sites, and all of the one’s I know about are free!

The site that I use the most is Spotify. On Spotify you can stream music, make playlists, share music, and follow your favorite artists and friends and see what they’re listening to! I do, however, suggest the computer version rather than mobile because in my opinion the mobile version isn’t as good as computer. Unless you get premium – then they’re both the same! Sign up here.

Spotify is one of many free streaming sites. You can also use Pandora, Apple Music, Google Play Music, and YouTube could probably work too!

What’s your preferred place to stream? Do you have any suggestions? Help each other out in the comments!

The Evolution of my Music Taste

I have always loved music – and I would like to say that that love has blossomed in the most recent years. Until recently, I didn’t know what my music taste was. Then again – I don’t think I knew what a “music taste” was either.

When I was little my mom played a lot of country. One of her favorite singers was Jo-Dee Messina, and I remember dancing around in the kitchen to her songs. I also remember my mom was able to see Jo-Dee in concert, and I came with  – but I was little, so I fell asleep for a lot of it.

My mom has told me that the first song I sang along to was Joe Diffie’s “Me”. I don’t think that’s the correct title, though… But anyway, I was in the tub when that song came on the radio and I began saying “me me me me me”. Which doesn’t seem like much, but that really is the basic lyrics of that song.

My music taste then went from country to oldies. When we would ride in the car we had the “Good Time Oldies” station on, and I now know a few of the beach boys songs.

Somewhere between country and oldies, my grandfather got me to like Elvis. I remember going to Elvis impersonation show’s when I was little – we actually have a picture of me at one with the lit up “ELVIS” sign in the background.

And now, my music taste is really diverse, at least I would like to say so. I can’t really tell you which genre’s I like, but that’s only because I don’t know what each one is called. My top two favorite bands are Imagine Dragons and 5 Seconds of Summer (also known as 5sos). I was able to see 5sos in concert in July 2015, but, sadly, have not seen Imagine Dragons live – YET! I’ve got plans for that band . . .

This music summary wasn’t much, but I hope you found some enjoyment in reading it. I also hope you have an open mind to the music I suggest to you; you never know what  you might end up liking.

Welcome to my music blog!

I created this blog because music is something I really enjoy and I want to share it with others! My goal for this blog is to share different bands, albums, songs, playlists, and genres; and I want to help others discover their music taste! On this blog I will also be posting updates of recent releases of the bands and artists I like  🙂

I want you to suggest music too! Not only do I want to help others’ music taste grow, but I would like mine to grow too! So, if you have a song, band, or playlist in mind, please suggest it in the comments sections! Or, if you listened to something I suggested, you can leave a review of what you thought, too!

This blog is pretty new, so the navigation may still be a bit rocky…but I’m working on it! In the meantime, why not listen to some music? A band I would suggest is Moose Blood. They’re an emo-punk band, and I think they’re pretty good! To get started, I would suggest their song “Knuckles“. I hope you enjoy!

What did you think of Moose Blood? Leave your thoughts in the comments! What do you think of my blog? Any suggestions? They will be much appreciated!
